Italy Reviewer Monica Larner lives in Rome and has worked as a professional wine critic specializing in the wines of her adopted home for 20 years. Monica has worked for The Wine Advocate for 10 years and worked for Wine Enthusiast magazine in a similar capacity the decade prior. Her tasting beat takes her from the top to the toe of the Italian peninsula, from Valtellina to Pantelleria, to taste Italy’s best wines and visit with its most talented winemakers.

Monica is especially fond of the wines of Tuscany that evoke the pleasurable, sun-drenched flavors of her native California. Her employment with The Wine Advocate was inaugurated with a bottle of the 1985 Sassicaia shared with Robert M. Parker Jr., and some of the wines that have inspired her most come from Montalcino, Bolgheri and Panzano in Chianti.
